Precision Acoutical Testing...

Continuing the tradition of accurate and complete testing, the Acoustical Evaluation Program at Air Turbine relies on leading edge technology and a broad knowledge base. Implementing the intensity method for acoustical measurements requires a commitment to education and training, but the payoff warrants the investment. As a component manufacturer, our research must focus on the customer's needs. That means our testing must produce useful results for every conceivable application our products may support. To date we have generated the data and software required to present our customers with accurate acoustic information for our props over their entire useful range.

Air Turbine employs the intensity method for several reasons. Of utmost importance is the fact that in-situ1 measurements can be made. Standard comparison measurements often fail in the presence of background noise and insufficient dynamic range. An intensity measurement is an absolute technique; therefore, a reference sound source is not required. More importantly, the measurement can be made in the presence of background noise. Of course, there are some limiting cases. Fortunately, our staff is knowledgeable enough to identify these situations to avoid providing inaccurate results.
